Zaza Calzia was born in Cagliari in 1932.
She studied art at the State Art Institute of Sassari. Starting in 1961, she directed the Pictorial
Decoration laboratory, teaching Design and Professional Drawing, at the Art Institute of Sassari, and
was a member of Gruppo “A.” In the same years she worked as a designer for crafts and industry.
Since 1967 she has devoted herself to children’s books. A member of the “Prove 10” cooperative,
she published “Un Paese” (a colorful fairy tale) in Rome in 1974.
From 1975 to 1997, she directed the Pictorial Decoration laboratory and taught Design and
Professional Drawing at the State Art Institute in Roma 2. She carries on her artistic activity in Rome,
where she has lived since 1970.
